Laser resurfacing and building collagen

Old skin purged, fresh collagen built, and redness that settles within hours. Face, neck, chest, back, arms and legs, with Donna Starnes in McKinney.

What resurfacing goes after

Laser resurfacing is the treatment for the things a brightening session only softens. It renews skin from within, purging old, damaged layers while stimulating fresh collagen, and it works through multiple layers rather than skimming the top one.

That depth is why Donna lists it for minimizing pores, softening fine wrinkles, and lightening aging spots and sun spots. It is also the treatment she describes as effective for acne scars, for marks left behind once the breakouts themselves are over.

Because it is a Candela fractional non-ablative laser, the surface of your skin is not being taken off. Donna points out that this technology is different from lasers that take off layers of skin and leave you with weeks of downtime.

How the laser works through a visit

A first visit starts with paperwork rather than the laser. Donna collects what she needs for her medical records and her medical director, and treatment begins after a medical professional approves it. Then she applies a lidocaine compound to numb the area and leaves it on for 45 minutes.

The laser itself runs about 20 to 30 minutes. She works the deep tissue first and then moves to the superficial tissue, and she personalizes the settings for each person, so a client treating raised scars and a client treating sun-spotted forearms are never given the same program. After the pass she applies a cooling enzyme and sunscreen.

On the menu, a face or neck visit is booked for 90 minutes and costs $400, which leaves room for the numbing and the treatment. You will find Donna upstairs at Salons By JC on South Custer Road in McKinney, and the full list of areas and prices is on the pricing page.

The 4 week clock

Downtime is short. You usually have mild swelling and redness for a couple of hours after treatment, and occasionally someone stays red or swollen for a day. There is no stretch of weeks to plan around.

The results run on a slower clock than the visit. It takes 4 weeks for a session to be considered a treatment, because the old skin has to purge out while collagen builds and the outer tissue resurfaces. Many clients do best with a series of 2 to 4 treatments, depending on age, skin condition and specific concerns.

Beyond the face and neck, Donna treats the chest or back and the arms at $600 for 45 minutes, and full legs at $1,000 for 75 minutes. Time is your best friend here: the skin keeps improving as the weeks pass.

Choosing between the three treatments

If you mainly want a fresher tone and smaller-looking pores, start with laser brightening. If breakouts are still active, the acne treatment is built around that. Prices for every area are on the pricing page, and you can compare client photos on before and after.

Not sure which area to book first? Call or text Donna and describe what you want to change. Pricing is per treatment, and the number of treatments depends on your skin.
